Where are the most recent hantavirus outbreaks?
The live map at hantavirusmap.io ingests new hantavirus events on an adaptive cron — every 2 hours during active clusters, every 6 hours in monitoring mode, and once daily during quiet periods. Sources are tier-1 (WHO, CDC, ECDC, PAHO, national ministries) and tier-2 (ProMED-mail, CIDRAP, peer-reviewed papers).
Recurring active regions
- Argentina (ANDV) — annual season November to April, heaviest in Patagonia and the northeast.
- Chile (ANDV) — Lake District and southern Patagonia, austral summer.
- United States (SNV) — sporadic Four Corners cases and dispersed western-state cases year-round.
- South Korea / China (HTNV, SEOV) — autumn HFRS peak with rural agricultural exposure.
- Finland / Sweden (PUUV) — autumn–winter peaks tracking bank-vole population cycles.
- Russia (PUUV, DOBV) — high HFRS incidence, particularly in the European part of the federation.
