Rekordjahr der Puumala-Virus-Epidemie in Finnland mit 3.259 laborbestätigten PUUV-Fällen — die höchste jährliche Fallzahl, die jemals in Finnland registriert wurde, und die höchste jährliche PUUV-Gesamtzahl, die je aus Europa gemeldet wurde. Die Epidemie wurde durch einen Anstieg der Feldmaus-Populationen (Myodes glareolus) nach reichlicher Samenproduktion von Samenbäumen vorangetrieben. Fälle konzentrierten sich auf Ost- und Zentralfinnland (besonders die Region Pieksämäki) und traten als Nephropathia epidemica auf, eine typischerweise mildere Form von HFRS. Die Meldung erfolgte durch die finnische Gesundheits- und Sozialinstitution (THL) gemäß Meldepflicht.
