Summary
Puumala virus (PUUV) high-circulation period in Finland during the 2021–2022 winter, coinciding with a multi-year peak in bank vole (Myodes glareolus) populations. Cases follow the established pattern of nephropathia epidemica clustered in eastern and central regions. National surveillance is maintained by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) under the notifiable-disease register.
Why this matters
One of several recurrent multi-year PUUV peaks that map closely to vole-population dynamics in Fennoscandia; useful reference point for ecological forecasting work.
