Summary
France's first laboratory-confirmed hantavirus case linked to the MV Hondius outbreak was announced by the Ministry of Health on 10 May 2026. The patient was hospitalised and confirmed positive for Andes virus (ANDV). The French government opened a contact-tracing operation that identified 22 contact cases by the morning of 11 May, with 5 French nationals classified as high-risk and placed in 6-week isolation beginning 10 May. This case is distinct from the earlier Bichat hospital patient (a flight contact who tested negative on 8 May).
