Summary
Sporadic Sin Nombre virus HPS reports across the Four Corners and broader US Southwest in 2002, recorded through state public health departments and the CDC NNDSS. The deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) remains the primary reservoir. Cases were typically associated with rodent-contaminated cabins, sheds, and rural workplaces.
Why this matters
Representative of the steady year-over-year SNV background that followed the 1993 Four Corners outbreak; useful for normalizing later anomalies such as the 2012 Yosemite cluster.
